The 2008 Coat Hanger Awards

The Coat Hanger this year goes to Kemel Zaldivar for The Story of Clyde published in OCHO #20.

This is the first year that I have picked out the winning writer for the Award. I chose The Story of Clyde because Kemel wrote this specifically for OCHO #20. When I asked him to edit #20, I asked him to write something in-between the poems he chose for the issue. This is not an average request from a publisher to an editor. Kemel not only pulled it off, he wrote in my opinion a little masterpiece.

The Honorary mentions this year are going to Blake Butler for CHRISTA MCAULIFFE published in OCHO#19, Bob Hicok for Arriving light in their fury to eat published in Oranges & Sardines Issue Two, Volume 1, Terrance Hayes for Coffin For Head of State published in MiPOesias Volume 22, Issue 8.

I am unable to offer any monetary value to The Coat Hanger award this year but if the winning writers were ever to show up at my door, I promise I will bake for them my special recipe for flan.
